Lead in Paint

Lead and other heavy metals present a daily risk to our health and our environment. Lead in paint and other sources around the home are of particular concern to homeowners. Approximately 24 million housing units in the United States have deteriorated leaded paint and elevated levels of lead-contaminated house dust. More than 4 million of these dwellings are homes to one or more young children.

The most accurate way to determine if paint in our house has lead in it is to submit a few square inches (about 1/2 a teaspoon) of the paint in question to our laboratory for analysis. Loose paint may be collected, or scraped from an unobtrusive area and placed in a Ziploc baggie before it is sent to our laboratory.
